Unfortunately, heart disease is not an uncommon finding in some of our older patients.  Both dogs and cats are at risk and can develop heart problems.  Symptoms range from exercise intolerance, coughing, lethargy and collapse.  Some patients are also asymptomatic (no abnormal findings).  Different causes range from heartworm (parasites), chronic valve disease and certain metabolic conditions such as Hyperthyroidism.  We offer a variety of diagnostic tests to help determine if the problem is present and what the underlying cause might be.  These tests included but are not limited to ultrasound/echo, radiographs, blood pressure and certain blood tests.  We offer a variety of different medical options to best mange each condition and help ensure a positive outcome for our “extended family!”
